Vietnam became the largest garment exporter to the US
According to Vietnam Textile & Apparel Association (VITAS), Vietnam’s garment industry has been recovering. Due to the US and EU policies on China, there has been a strong shift of orders from China to Vietnam overcoming China, becoming the largest garment exporter to the US in 2020.
Rebound and Growth
Garment export of Vietnam is expected to grow sharply due to the effective EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) by reducing the import taxes on Vietnam’s garment exports by over 70%-99%. There is significant room for the increase in export to EU, apparel by 67% in 2025 (MPI). In addition, Vietnam is developing its’ domestic market to meet its strategic plan. Vietnam’s demand for production equipment and facilities will be increased, as the factories find that it’s difficult to source while the borders were closed in 2020.
